Lecturers: K. Mathiopoulos D. Karpouzas K. Papadopoulou G. Skrettas
Focus of this course
The main aim of this module is the understanding of the main methods and processes by which insects, plants and microbes could be used as valuable sources and tools for the production of next generation biotechnological products. Their application will lead to a drastic reduction of the environmental footprint of industrial processes and of the undesirable impact of conventional industrial products in environmental and health. Within the frame of this module examples of such products and processes currently used in agriculture and other industries like energy and plastic production will be presented. Finally, there will be particular focus on the use of synthetic biology for the production of new high value products like biomolecules and medical compounds.
