Welcome to the webpage of the Interinstitutional Program of Postgraduate Studies (MSc) in Bioentrepreneurship which is co-organised by the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Thessaly and Institute of Biology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Biotechnology, The National Hellenic Research Foundation.
Most life science researchers simply are not trained in the complexities of commercialization. Properly educating more researchers to understand entrepreneurship and have the skill sets needed to succeed in the commercial world is of tremendous importance for translating discoveries into products, building companies and also providing the knowledgeable recruits that industry wants to hire.The MSc programaims todevelop entrepreneurial and innovative skills to young scientists and to integrate academic education and business training. The MSc in Bioentrepreneurship is the first postgraduate program in Greece composed of multi-component and transferable learning activities facilitating the development of scientific, business, and entrepreneurship skills.
The MSc program is structured through biotechnology courses with entrepreneurial applications in the areas of:
- Pharmaceuticals
- Food and Nutrition
- Environmental Biotechnology
- Biochemical and Molecular Diagnostics
In combination to courses related to the acquisition of skills in management organization and business administration:
- Introduction to entrepreneurship
- Legal frame of bioentrepreneurship- Standardization
- Funding sources
- Research, design and implementation of business plan
In order to cultivate and developentrepreneurial conscience to the MSc students and in addition to courses outlined above, the program is enriched with seminars with entrepreneurial elements delivered by prominent business executives. It also includes the creation of virtual enterprises,regular visits to companies, and the development of entrepreneurship support structures providing the necessary motivation to students. The MSc graduates acquire all the necessary skills for a successful career in the world of enterprises and will be able to translate innovation to products and services, rendering themselves valuable human resources for the business domain.
